Having been formerly introduced to the Falafel a few months back by Dustin, of Okcbites fame, I must admit they have quickly become one of my go to foods. By this I mean if my wife and I can’t decide on a place to eat we usually choose a place that serves Falafels. About half the time that place is Zorbas. Falafels are a perfect food for those who choose a meatless lifestyle. I am sure that many of you have had them before but I will go into a bit of detail about them just in case you haven’t. A Falafel is essentially an appetizer or snack consisting of a small croquette made with fava-bean flour or ground chick peas, seasoned with toasted sesame seeds and salt, often served in pita bread. At Zorbas they come in more of a Wrap or flat bread and they are tightly rolled up into a big delicious burrito type thing. They come out super warm and have a very delicious sauce (maybe yogurt sauce) on them. The good thing about getting your falafels at Zorbas is beer. I may be in the minority, but I don’t think I could eat a falafel without following each delicious bite with a nice drink of cold refreshing beer. The two complement each other better than peanut butter and jelly as far as I’m concerned. The last time I was there we ordered the humus and it was pretty good. I have also tried the rice at Zorbas and Meh. It was okay but it’s not the food that’s bringing me back.

Palmas Pizza & Deli Market

I went to Palma’s after a long overdue first visit.  I initially saw an unmarked sedan with a palm tree riding up and down my street.  This is how I discovered the place.  Palmas is a pizza and deli market.  Their claim to fame is that they are a little restaurant with a big menu.  This couldn’t be more true!!! The mission statement of Palamas is: “We are committed to deliver the highest quality foods with the freshest ingredients at an affordable price.”  This is a convenient store on NW 23 and approximately Hudson on the south side of the street.  I must agree with the mission statement; the food is most definitely freshly cooked and the ingredients are high quality.  This particular evening, I enjoyed the Pesto Pollo sandwich. This consisted of a grilled chicken breast topped with pesto sauce (See above).  The sandwich was also smothered in provolone, parmesan and red onions served on a grilled onion bun.  My order came complete with hand cut fries that were done right….. Nice and brown, baby!  I have attempted to order pizza from this place with numerous movie night dates; all of which declined for the Papa John’s down the road.  I must admit, part of the reason I wanted to order in from this place was to see the car with the palm tree pull in my drive way.  Palmas is a force to be reckoned with!    The spot offers entree’s for every palette.   The extensive menu consists of Appetizers, Salads, Calzones & Gyros, Feature sandwiches, deli sandwiches, famous pizza, gourmet pizza, burgers, beverages, and dessert.  Needless to say, with the menu Palmas packs; This will not be my last visit.  The joint delivers to core OKC also.   give’em a call 405-521-0200 or 405-521-0201.  I am still trying to determine the ethnic origin of the cuisine…. Maybe Italian, maybe not.
