I should REALLY preface this post by stating that I vowed that I would go to my grave having never eaten at this place. Unfortunately we had some friends (who in my book are now ex-friends) come into town that had moved from Oklahoma during the erection of TKILTBAG and wanted to see what it was all about. I warned them that no good can come from this but they ignored me. I said we should at least put it to a vote knowing my wife would side with me. As you can probably guess the vote was 3-1 with my sellout wife casting the tie breaking (and heartbreaking) vote. Not wanting to make a big deal about having to eat there I threw a large fit and let them all know they were idiots. Having grown accustom to my fits and bitching they neither cared nor changed their minds.

This is the last of Beverly’s Restaurants in OKC. The first restaurant was opened in 1921 and I think there were at least 5 others (some speculate there were 6). Their specialty is “Chicken in the Rough”, but they also pay particular attention to huge hamburgers (Bevburgers to be exact) and wonderful pancakes. A group of coworkers and myself decided that it would be a good idea to eat pancakes for lunch again. So we counted down the seconds to noon, loaded up, and made our way over to Beverly’s Pancake Corner. When you pull into the parking lot you are greeted by a big red sign that says Beverly’s Pancake Corner and has a chicken playing golf at the top. I assume that this is the chicken in the rough and “rough” is a golf term. (Hmmm I have drove by this restaurant every day for the last year or so and I’ve never put this connection together until now.) Anyways the sign has an arrow pointing to a small narrow building with a yellow Awning that yells out “Chicken in the Rough” in big bright red letters. Stepping through the entry way is a little bit like stepping back in time. The south side of the building is lined with a row of booths while the north side contains the kitchen and a long bar area with plenty bar stool seating. Towards the back of the building the bar ends and the booths become round and provide seating for larger parties. Read more

We actually ended up at this restaurant by accident. By virtue of time, everything else was closed. So As I am driving past a few Indian places I wanted to check out I remembered if I continue down 23rd I would arrive at the intersection that housed Queen of Sheba, Oklahoma City’s ONLY Ethiopian restaurant. Luckily, this was not a hard sell for me as my date had already been here. It’s 10:30 and as we are driving down N.W. 23rd street I discovered something interesting. There are almost as many taco stands on the side of the road here as there are on 29th street. I don’t know why this baffles me but it does. Read more

My wife and I decided to eat at Sophabella’s last Friday night. I should probably admit that I was a little excited about eating here because I was doing so with malicious intent. For a couple of years now Sophabella’s has been one of my favorite places to eat in the Metro area. That is until the last 2 or 3 times I went. Don’t get me wrong the food is always exquisite, but the service was lacking. Actually “lacking” might be a bit of an understatement. The service was absolutely horrendous, nearly non-existent. Of course we had the same waiter every time . I won’t say his name but it starts with an M and rhymes with fica, but I will refer to him as “He who shall not be named” for the remainder of this review. “He who shall not be named “acted like it bothered his pretentious ass to even take our order.  Read more

(Editor’s Note: As is our policy with regards to perfect tens, a second review has been done on this establishmenst and posted accordingly.  To read the follow up, click here.)

Recently, a poll was posted on this website inquiring everyone’s opinion of the best Mexican restaurant in OKC.   One of the restaurants didn’t even receive a lonesome vote.   The much overlooked restaurant to which I am referring is named Taqueria Los Desvelados Which translated in English means Taqueria Sleepless One.  Los Desvelados stays open on weekends until 3:00 A.M. for all of the night owls.   The only reason I did not vote for this place is because the other love of my life, El Alex, was on the poll.
