Stopped into my favorite Vietnamese Bánh mì shop yesterday for lunch, in the heart of the OKC Asian District. Actually, it may be the only Vietnamese sandwich shop in the city and if not, I am sure someone will correct me.

Housed in a famous local landmark, the Milk Bottle has been photographed and had portraits painted of it for posterity. Many businesses have tried to make a go of it in this location but with barely 100 square feet, it has to be tough. The latest comer is the Saigon Baguette and I hope this one stays for a long time.

Once you walk in there is small waiting area with a simple menu - only 6 choices plus some shrimp spring rolls or fried rolls. The sandwiches include their house special (several kinds of meats plus a pâté of some kind) three types of pork, chicken or meatball. I have had them all and all are good. All the sandwiches have the meat of your choice, thin cut vegetables and cilantro marinated in a mystery sauce that is sweet and light and a few fresh jalapeño pepper slices for some kick, all put together on a crunchy fresh baguette. Jake also tells me that he orders a vegetable sandwich for his vegan lifestyle and that he eats here several times in a normal week.

Here is the cool part though - all sandwiches are only two bucks - with tax!! Best lunch for two bucks in OKC hands down. The spring rolls are all a buck a piece and there is also an interesting selection of beverages (everything from bottled water to Coconut Juice in a can). I love that I never leave this place rattling with coins in my pocket.

Of all the choices my fav is definitely the regular pork with the meatball being my least favorite (no one specifies what type of meat, and I find this a tad troubling).

Now for an oddity I have noticed. The way I was told about this place had nothing to do with the grub. On most occasions the young Vietnamese girl working the counter, who is cute, dresses VERY provocatively. Hot shorts and tight low cut top appear to be the norm. I assume this is why I have noticed a decidedly masculine customer base.

Cute girls not withstanding, do not hesitate to get down to the ‘old Milk Bottle and get yourself the best cheap lunch in OKC!!

PS - If anyone has the balls to take of picture of the chick that works here - send to us for the site. I wimped out.

had a vegetable sandwich today and it was great. Also, I am a vegeterian not a vegan. Big Difference! Nevertheless it is a great place to eat for super cheap.

Actually these sandwiches are also available on the south side at Cafe Bella..and maybe some other locations that I am not familiar with. HOWEVER, the milk bottle has the best price and overall taste! I am scheduled to go there tomorrow so I may have the guts to get a picture of this girl..haha
