Let me start this post by adressing those of you who are surprised that there is a review on okcbites about Marie Calenders. I assure everyone that I in no way intended to end up here. Let me set the scene: Last Sunday, Father’s day, I decided I would take my parents along with my aunt and grandmother who were visiting to a little restaurant in Dibble Oklahoma called Nancy’s Crossroads Cafe. This place was highly recommended by a co-worker and I was really looking forward to enjoying the country platter. Knowing that this is a holiday and there is a good chance Nancy’s would be closed, I called the day before. I obtained directions and was assured that they would be open and probably not very busy around 3 P.M. I felt confident that this would be acceptable to accommodate my handicap aunt and ancient grandmother. Luckily I left the map at home and needed to call to make sure I was headed in the right direction. You may ask, why would it be lucky for me that the directions to the restaurant were left at home? It’s because theDAMN PLACE was closed after I called the day before to make sure that I wouldn’t run into this problem.
Now I’m already homicidally pissed because the restaurant that I wanted to review is closed and the person I spoke with the day before FLAT OUT LIED TO ME!!!! So now I have old people following my sister and I getting confused because we are making U-turns trying to get to another restaurant and make it look like this is where we were headed all along. I knew my aunt and grandmother we would need to go to a quiet, non-crowded establishment.
I reluctantly settle on Marie Calenders knowing that no one would bitch too much about this choice. We get into the restaurant and are seated. (Please note that I am not a happy camper right now and it’s going to take a lot to appease me.) Upon ordering my aunt was coerced into chicken strips because the waitress refused to take orders out of sequence. She’s tapping her pen and staring at my aunt who eats out once every ten years. I order turkey and dressing with the salad bar!!!! Whoo Hoo! I’m so excited………….I’m thinking to my self that this would probably be a safe choice that they couldn’t screw up. When the food finally arrives I asked the waitress if she would please take my salad plate after she has served everyone else. Her response to me is “I guess” You what? You guess?? I don’t believe in creating a problem for wait staff. Having been one in my college days I know the wicked machinations servers can dream up. I’m holding in my anger so I decide that it is best that my sister speak for me for the remainder of our visit. I would immediately begin to stare at my plate when our waitress came near.
I tried to immediately forget as much about this experience as possible all I remember is the turkey entree that resembled a lean cuisine frozen dinner along with my aunt’s obviously frozen and flash fried chicken strips…..The meal for six was approximately $150 and the food was decidedly crappy. Now dinner is over and someone has the bright idea that we should order pies and enjoy them over coffee at the house. I question the sanity of this person since we all agreed our food sucked balls. Orders for a custard and and lemon cream cheese pie are placed. What a freaking mistake that was! The lemon Pie tasted like acid on top of cream cheese with burnt crust and the custard pie tasted like an omelet in a pie shell. Jesus tap dancing Christ Marie! You need to step up your game because the experience I had at your restaurant was indeed my worst in a month of sundays. Perhaps going out of business would be a good suggestion.

I have never heard of this place but I am mostly glad to finally burn someone at the stake - good job!
Marie’s is awful!!! My husband and I ate at Marie’s a few years ago and we both ended up with some sort of food poisoning, let’s just say it was a pleasant experience. To this day whenever Peter sees Marie’s he feels the shits coming on. So unless you are seeking a drastic alternative to traditional diet and exercise it is best to avoid Marie Callender’s.
I want to try this place now.
Last time I went there they screwed up my order BIG TIME! The salad bar is good though..they have those mini muffins that you can eat with your nana ;)!
I swear they served me a TV dinner. It was that bad, and expensive.
